More than 200
Squirrel
species live all over
the world, with the notable exception of Australia. The tiniest
squirrel is the aptly named African pygmy squirrel—only five inches
(thirteen centimeters). The Indian giant squirrel is three feet
(almost a meter) long. Like other rodents, squirrels have four front
teeth that never stop growing.
Squirrels eat nuts, leaves, roots, seeds, and other plants, but also
catch insects and even baby birds. Sometimes groups of squirrels
work together to warn each other of approaching danger with
whistling call. Tree squirrels, ground squirrels & flying squirrels
(although they do not fly, they can glide from one tree to another)
are three group of squirrels.
The
Ostrich
is the world's largest bird. They roam African savanna and desert
lands and get most of their water from the plants they eat. Though
they cannot fly, ostriches are fleet, strong runners. They can
sprint up to 70 kilometers per hour. An ostrich's powerful legs can
cover 10 to 16 feet in a single stride.
Ostrich kicks can kill a human or a potential predator like a lion.
Ostriches live in small herds that typically contain less than a
dozen birds. Contrary to popular belief, ostriches do not bury their
heads in the sand.
The Atlantic
bluefin tuna are warm-blooded, a rare trait among fish,
and are comfortable in the cold waters of Newfoundland and Iceland,
as well as the tropical waters of the Gulf of Mexico and the
Mediterranean Sea.
They can swim at up to 70 km/hr. They can retract their dorsal and
pectoral fins into slots to reduce drag. Illegal fishing has pushed
the Bluefin populations to the brink of extinction.
No life on earth is
a fluke of nature. Each and every form of life is important for
the balance on earth. Every living being has the equal right to
enjoy this world. However, some human beings tend to forget this
simple truth. They start to think that the whole world belongs
to them and they can do whatever they feel like in order to
enjoy. Animal cruelty is common everywhere, even in places where
it’s prohibited. Although there may be laws against animal
cruelty, its not highly implemented. Thus every year, there are
several animals, including pets like cats and dogs, and wild
animals, that are maltreated. In the world, many animals are abused
or killed in every second.
But it's us who can fight against all this and can make a
difference. The problem is very large & complex- it's common for
individual to feel powerless, but every small bit we do counts a
lot. Our small small steps can become life-saving for the
animals. The kindness one does for the animal may not change the
world ..... but it will change the world of those animals.
Few small things that can help:
